History of the Pulaski County Community Foundation, Inc.

In 1994 several citizens of Pulaski County gathered to create our community foundation. For two years its leaders worked closely with a similar group in adjoining Starke County. In late 1996 both counties became affiliates of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation (NICF), which already consisted of Cass, Fulton and Miami counties.

In 2000 the committee of the Pulaski County Community Foundation unanimously voted to become an independent, self-standing entity. In 2001 a local office was established in Winamac and a part-time staff was hired. The Board of Directors was increased and the organization applied for its own 501c3 status, created bylaws, mission statement, and other governance pieces.

On March 31, 2002 the Pulaski County Community Foundation officially became an independent organization. PCCF ran its first independent granting cycle that year, awarding over $12,000 to local projects/organizations in 2002.

In May of 2003 a full-time executive director was hired, and the Community Foundation continued to grow. In 2007 we celebrated our 10-year anniversary and by the end of that year, total assets exceeded $6.6 million!

Today, the Community Foundation is continuing to develop philanthropy in Pulaski County. PCCF now has its own Facebook page, accepts contributions online, receives grant and scholarship applications online, and is working toward reconfirmation with state and national standards for community foundations.

Our second decade of service includes support for local nonprofits, acting as a collaborator and convener around issues pertinent to the community, and an emphasis on youth philanthropy. We look forward to increased service and support of the charitable interests of our citizens and community in the months and years ahead!
